About the Workshops

After years of requests from friends and colleagues to pass on my knowledge of patterns, I am very excited to bring pattern making classes to all that are craving the knowledge! I have put together one day and two day workshops for those interested in learning the art and skills of pattern making with the convenience of dedicating a couple of days v.s. a few months.

Just imagine how you will be able to make anything you dream up! These workshops will focus on basic patterning techniques and rules that can be adapted to most patterns. Having an understanding of patterns expands your sewing abilities to a whole new level!

I want students to let go of their fear of pattern making and give them a few essential rules that will allow them to make changes to any pattern to create their own unique style. I know the frustration of having an idea in your head and not being able to find the pattern you want in those pattern books at the fabric store! These skills will give you even more options! The basic "Pattern Workshop 101" is for anyone who can use a sewing machine. Whether you have never tried pattern making or want to refresh and hone your current skills, this is a great way to start.

"Pattern Workshop 101"

In this two day workshop you will learn the three basic principles of pattern making and the rules that can be adapted to most patterns. This is a great opportunity for those that do not have any prior knowledge of pattern making, or for those that want to refresh the skills they have already learned. Workshop includes: Full size and half size bodice and skirt sloper, instruction booklet, resource list, book list, breakfast, and lunch. Basic sewing skills required.

* Now Available online! Click here to enroll!

"Pattern Workshop 102"

This two day workshop Introduces the Torso Foundation. This is a foundation used for making dresses without seams. We will also learn how to make princess seam lines, various collars, sleeves, and cuffs. There will also be a lot more detailed info that will lead to even more design options! You will utilize what we learned in "Pattern Workshop 101" -- the three basic principles -- in different and more intriguing applications! Workshop includes: Torso Block Draft, instruction book, breakfast, and lunch. "Pattern Workshop 101" is a prerequisite for this class.

"Draping Workshop 201"

In this workshop, we go through the basics of fabric Draping. From flat fabric into fabulous, learning Draping can lead to amazing possibilities in pattern making. This is a valuable knowledge tool to add to your arsenal! There is no prerequisite for this class, but you do need to bring in your own dress form and have basic sewing skills. Workshop includes: instruction booklet, resource list, book list, breakfast, and lunch.

"Fit Your Own Sloper" Workshop

In this one day workshop you will learn to do a fitting, transfer changes to your pattern and by the end of class have a sloper that fits uniquely you! No prerequisite required, but basic sewing skills are necessary. Workshop includes: sloper pattern, muslin, breakfast, and lunch.

"Corset in a Day" Workshop

This rare class is guest-taught by Jeffrey Lieder, the Costume Director for Utah Shakespearean Festival. In this two-day workshop, students are provided with the tools and skills to take a custom-fit corset from start to completion, and will learn the "sandwich method" developed by Jeff to make corset building speedy. No prerequisite for this class, but basic sewing skills are essential. Students must provide basic tools and one yard of woven cotton fabric. Workshop includes: pattern, coutil, bones, busk, laces, breakfast, and lunch for both days.
